Traditional Italian Style Gluten Free Spaghetti Carbonara Recipe

Spaghetti Carbonara was one of my favorite meals growing up and was the first recipe I learned to cook on my own. It’s personally my favorite pasta dish to make at home because it tastes excellent and is quick and easy.

One of the first gluten free meals I experimented with was spaghetti carbonara and I was very relieved when it turned out well and tasted similar enough to the real thing. In fact, I have made gluten free carbonara for my friends who aren’t gluten free and they enjoyed it.

I have tried this recipe with chickpea pasta and corn and rice spaghetti but the brand that I have found tastes the most similar to real pasta is Taste Republic Gluten Free Linguini. I personally used Taste Republic in this recipe, however, any spaghetti replacement will do.

I also personally prefer using chopped prosciutto in this meal, however, pancetta, or even regular bacon still tastes great in your carbonara. Use whichever is available to you or is the most cost effective.

Ingredients

  • 4 4 Eggs

  • 4 Oz 4 Chopped Prosciutto

  • 1/4 1/4 Large Onion (Red or White) Diced

  • 1/2 Cup 1/2 Parmesan Cheese

  • 1 Tsp 1 Garlic, minced

  • 9* Oz 9* Gluten Free Pasta of Your Choice

Directions

  • Crack 4 large eggs into a mixing bowl and mix until combined. Add salt, pepper, and 1/2 cup Parmesan Cheese into the bowl and stir.
  • Place 4oz Chopped Prosciutto into a frying pan and stir frequently.
  • Dice 1/4 of a large red or white onion and add to the pan with Prosciutto
  • Add 1tsp garlic to the Prosciutto and onion and stir. Let cook until desired brown and take the pan off the heat. Once cooled to room temperature, combine the prosciutto, onions, and garlic in your egg bowl and mix
  • Boil a large pot of water and add your preferred gluten free brand of pasta. The cook time will depend on the brand you purchase but you want your pasta cooked more than al dente
  • Drain the water, put your pasta back into the pot, and pour the egg mixture on top. Make sure to turn your burner on low heat and mix the egg around the gluten free pasta to cook it and coat the pasta in the carbonara
  • Enjoy!

Notes

  • *Taste Republic GF pasta is fresh pasta so if you are using dried pasta in this recipe you should probably do around 6oz of dry pasta.
